Yamaha RD400 Daytona - Brand New

I have a mate here in the UK that has a brand new Daytona for sale.

My friend presently has it for sale on ebay - below is his description

YAMAHA RD
400F DAYTONA 1979/2VO MODEL BRAND NEW

NEVER RUN - YAMAHA FACTORY MILES (1.4) ONLY.

Hello and thanks for looking.

This gem of a bike is part of my large collection of Aircooled & Liquid Cooled RD's that will be offered for sale over the coming months but can say catagorically this is the best bike I have...

We all see the words "rare" and "mint " used all too frequently these days to describe bikes that to be honest are anything but, although I'm sure as you true RD enthusiasts will know, this really is really a "rare" bike and in new / mint condition. Defiinately one not to be missed by you RD collectors out there. In fact in my 25 years of RD/LC ownership, I have never seen a "new" RD400 (any model) being offered for re-sale. Most, if any at all, are now in serious collector's hands on both sides the Atlantic. So as you will expect this bike is not going to be offered cheap and I really don't care if I end up keeping it, especially as it's value continues to appreciate!

OK ...so here is maybe the one & only opportunity you will ever have to own a 100% brand new (never run) RD400F "Dayona Special" - 1979 / 2V0 model.

Let me give you some background detail...as this is not just a bike I have recently purchased, having owned it since 1996.

History:

I imported the bike from Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA after hearing about it from a good RD friend. I contacted the owner, then working for Green Bay Kawasaki who had purchased the RD from his old boss, who owned a Yamaha dealership in Green Bay and was keeping the new bike crated for his son. The story goes, his son turned out to be a right naughty sort, so the bike was only assembled in 1994 and remained in the Yamaha dealer's showroom (not for sale) until 1995, when it was sold tomy seller. The bike was never registered in the USA, so absolutely no owner's there. The bike hasnever been registered here in UK, so no owners here, either! Should you register the bike here in UK (which I strongly suggest you don't but down to you), you would be officially the bike's first owner...anywhere!

OK enough of the history...

Bike Facts:

The bike is 1979 Aircooled RD400F DAYTONA SPECIAL (with the special US emission control butterfly valve carbs) and I have it's original certificate of import to USA during 1979 and all purchase & import receipts from USA. It was flown in from the US to Gatwick...(1st class..Just kiddin)!

The bike is 100% original, everything on the bike is as it would have been available in the showroom back in 1979...down to it's original Yokahama tyres ...with pimples (see pictures). The new toolkit is present and all the correct parts are on the bike...new pipes, Yam bolts, matching engine & frame etc etc etc etc. I also have the new original mirrors which are missing from the pictures. The 1.4 miles on the speedo is mainly pre-delivery mileage done at the Yamaha factory prior to shipping from Japan..this bike has never been run...it's original battery is still in it's full original plastic cover. Of course, it has been wheeled around a bit in my ownership but this would have added less than 0.2 - 0.3 of a mile!

As mentioned above, the bike has never been started...so please do not ask me how it runs ...I really don't know. If you want to re-commission it for starting & running, thats again down to you...but I believe the true value in this bike is being new & unused.

Del by any chance is this the same person who has the brand new RD350LC in crates?
If this not the person then by any chance do you know the existance of this guy who has 10 crates of brand new RD350 LC's who lives somewhere in London.

As far as I know this information is true cause this was conveyed to me by a friend of mine who now works in UK for Suzuki F1 Racing Team.

No its not - my mate is an enthusiast and a proper restorer.

Too start with I have never heard of a Suzuki F1 team or anybody in London with crates of brand new 350LC's

However.............

There is a old dealer from the 70's and 80's that does have brand new crated bikes in the warehouse.

That particular dealer opens a box and builds one to sell every so often.

They appear on ebay and start around £5000
