1. hmm, otai31k has given an answer, but i think it really depends on your engine setup, either standard or modified. Compared with the 3 settings, 16-38 is the highest, mamatkapars 17-41 is in the middle while the standard 16-41 is the lowest geared (high speed low engine rpm). Maybe your friends bike vibrate at high speed caused by worn out engine (hence less horsepower?)

2. google is your friend, and from ebay uk, they are around RM5-9k. But IMHO we cant really compare prices between bikes in m'sia and UK as their supply and demand for each bike types is different from ours.

Just my 1sen...

edited because of wrong gearing calculations in the 1st place huhu...

hi lads....

maybe i could find you some answer you needed...

1. yup factory setting for rd250f is 16 front and 41 rear but i cant find original factory setting for your bike as your bike is using 350 block...damn where did you get that block in the first place??think you should try 16/39 first...

2. i dont have any idea the cost of this bike in uk if you find one you should ask for service history...it will save you a lot of money...but considering the currency exchange right now...you might wanna look at local market first..taman dagang, ampang perhaps....

3.   do you  know from which model or year this fairing from?maybe will find one in autojumble.....

I really feel bad think have to turn you down as for the time being we are really tied up with a few restoration works. My friends and me burn the midnight oil almost everyday!!!!

Dont worry you should be able to do it.As for the smoothness try raising the main jets but before that check the colors of the plugs.

Personally I keep the sprockets at the factory setting on a standard bike.

Also I don't go in for too much of this tuning work. My 400 is fitted with expansions because I like the noise and the look of them.

I don't do track days so I have no real need to get more power.

All I have done is increase the jet size by 2 sizes

17/38 is the standard for the Rd250F and the 400F in the UK-

The gearing differance between the two is in the primary gears behind the clutch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prices in the UK are up and down. RD250 prices are a lot lower than RD400.

You can pay from £500 for a rough bike right up to £3000 for a show winner.

A good RD400 will cost £1500 to £2000 as an average!

In the UK you can buy a wreck for a few hundred quid and then easily pay £5000 to do a full restoration on it.

The re-sale value is less than its worth!

Headlights are all the same.
My RD400 is a 1976 model. In the UK it is called the RD400C.
It is a USA model that was imported into the UK

b. can your 400 "conrod" (can someone correct this) be fitted to the 400F model?
Conrods for the RD400 are the same on all models of the RD400.
I have a mate who sells them for £36 with bearings.

c. originally, the RD400F model have how many caliper@disc brake on the front wheel
All RD400's were fitted with a single front disc.
It is possible to get forks off of some of the four stroke models (XS650)which have twin discs and fit them too the 400's I know some people that have done it.

Its called Value Added Tax, the government adds a % tax value to nearly everything that you buy in the UK.
If a new bike cost £1000 then %15 would be added which goes to the goverment = You pay £1150. We all hate paying it. You only pay on new items

Vehicle reg plates have a letter on the end which donates the year it was registered on the road. My RD400 is a "P" which means 1976. N would be a 1975. R is 1977 and so on.

and daylight MOT...please enlighten us....
All vehicles have to pass a yearly government safety test check. A daylight MOT (Ministry of Transport) is a test where a vehicle does not have lights fitted. Legally it can only be used in daylight.
